Bottle 974 - Prins Hendrik der Nederlanden
Date Added: 15 March 2012

This is a model of the Prins Hendrik der Nederlanden of the Dutch navy in the year 1868. The artist, Frans Dekker, wanted to make the Prins but not as a normal ship in a bottle. Built in a 3 liter bottle, the hull was made in four parts. The idea was to equip it with 2 engines; one for firing the guns, and one for running the steam engine. Unlike sailing ships where the rigging is the most important thing; this ship is more a steam ship than a sailing ship, so the attention comes from the working turning screws from the steam engine (made from carving out a single block) and the guns that fire and produce sound.
