Bottle 613 - Mystic Ship
Date Added: 11 May 2008

The Making of a Mystic Ship from Frans Dekker. "Some times you can’t hardly seen anything be cause of the fog on see. What to do whit a ship in the fog in a bottle? The problem is that you can’t see it and can you hear it? Well, if the ship has a fog-horn you can hear the horn. When I visit a second-hand store I found a square bottle that you can not look true. It seems if some-one has sanded the glass. I bought it for only 20 eurocents. When I came home I discover that if you are wetting the glass you can look true the glass if its normal. Howe wonder. I had a SIB, a two mast topsail schooner, that laid in a corner of mi hobby-room for some years. Whit some clay I made the see, put the schooner in to the bottle. The schooner is sailing whit two small sails on top of the fore mast. She is sailing whit just enough sail to let the ship listened to the rudder. I put a cork in to the neck of the bottle en some seal on it (whit mi monogram, it is on every SIB that I have made) A Turkish not on the neck and it was ready. But there most be something more. Mi brother in law had an old MP3 player witch hi did not used anymore. Mi daughter had an old speaker (a small one, used by MP3 players) witch she did not used anymore so all the ingredients are there to make something out of it. Whit some trouble we managed to put the noise of a fog-horn on the MP 3 player. If you pull the handle of the MP3 player you hear the fog-horn blow 2 times. When I showed mi SIB by occasion and some one wanted to see mi mystic ship I wetted the glass whit a handkerchief a little and there it is. After half a minute the fog is back and you can not see it anymore. A yoke from me and I like it very much." Frans Dekker
