Date Added: 01 May 2008

From the Artist: "A gift for a friend. One day i stayed in the Tsjech Republic. My brother got an old farm in a small place and we both were drinking whiskey at one of his neighbours. That man happened to be an old fisherman and in his house ware 4 ship models, made by that man. One of them was a fishing-boat. I saw that there was a crucifix in his barn between some old lumber. The man dos not speak any language except Tsjechoslowakian. But his son who was whit him speaks English. I told him (by his son) that I have made a couple of SIB and that they where showed at de site folkartinbottles. After a while I heard his reaction. He was wild and he loved the SIB. And I liked the crucifix very much. Well, the deal was made. I got the crucifix and a have made a fishing-boat in a bottle. The model is not as big as usual because the wideness of the arms to the fishing nets out of the ship. So I made the hull out of one part of lindewood. The sides where made of 0,4 mm plywood. The deckhouse, including the chimney-shaft is separated. The masts to let de nets out of the ship where made of tin copper. The big standing masts where placed in two holes in the deck. I did not have any drawings of that kind of ships but I have a brochure of a museum in the port to Amsterdam, called IJmuiden. In that museum is an exhibition of SIB. 20 of my models are there until October 2008 (totally 212 models of SIB). At the front of that brochure was a fishing-ship. I used that photo tot make the SIB. It is not a very difficult model and normally I should have never built such a model. But for a crucifix I’ll do everything."
