Bottle 542 - Easter Egg
Date Added: 04 April 2007

This is a model of a Barkentine built in an ostrich egg. The egg has been drilled open in four locations and grommets and plastic film cover the holes to form windows for viewing the ship sailing inside. The ship is highly detailed with standing and running rigging. There are three masts and 11 sails. The ship has a white deck cabin with black ports and a life boat hanging from davits from the stern of the ship. It sails on a sea of blue clay with light whitecaps. A carved bird flies above the ship. There is a land mass to the bow of the ship with rocks and mountains. A large yellow sun with long yellow rays is positioned on the inside of the egg. Not only does the sun add to the scene, it also provides a way to hide wiring inside the egg. An LED light is positioned in the inside top of the egg to illuminate the inside for viewing through the "portholes." The hidden cord goes from the top of the egg, follows the ray of the sun to the rocky land where it goes under the land and out of the egg underneath. The light is powered by batteries and controlled by flipping a switch built into the oak base which was custom built to fit the contours of the egg.
