Date Added: 09 March 2007

This is 3 masted schooner named the "San Antonio." The original ship was made in 1909 in Alblasserdam, a place in the south of Holland and famous for making ships. The schooner has three masts and flies 10 sails. The ship has very detailed standing and running rigging. The hull is white and the bottom and the rest is black. The bowsprit has a dolphin striker. There is railing around the bow and stern sections of the ship. The deck is accurately detailed with hatches, cabins, windlass, and other features found on the original ship. There are two lifeboats mid deck displayed with a white tarp cover over each. The ship sails near small island with a red and white stripped lighthouse with the lighthouse keeper's cabin beside it. Three birds are shown flying over the ship. The bottle rests on a wooden stand and is sealed with a cork. The neck has a Turk's Head knot with the ends sealed on top of the cork with red sealing wax. This ship in bottle model was made from a pictures and descriptions from the book "San Antonio" by Edward P. deGroot. The artist Frans Dekker provided the following: "This ship is a schooner with 3 masts. It was built in 1909 in Alblasserdam, a place in the south of Holland. This ship was sailing unto 1973 (at that time on motor) . In 1973 the ship is rebuilt for passengers and as far as I now still sailing in the Mediterranean under the name "Ariadne." The size of the bottle is 30 cm length and 8 ½ cm wide. I built this model in 1991. The model is 12 cm long. The history of this ship is laid down in a book with some small drawings, enough for me to make a SIB."
