I have made a SIB, a representation of a Trekschuit. From about the year 1600 or even before these kind of ships were used in Holland for transporting people and goods. These ships are built from light material and where capable to transport between 25 and 35 people whit their luggage. The ships where pulled by horse power or by people. They had a short mast where the pulling ropes were fastened. A young person called a "snikjong" would sometimes walk with the horse or would sit on it. The name "snikjong" is derived from the type of ship often used called a SNIK, and "jong" is a nickname for a young person. With this bottle I have made the Trekschuit used between Edam and Volendam from the years between 1900 and 1940. Although there was a little tram between Edam and Volendam a lot of tourists used the Trekschuit. At that time it was nostalgic. After WWII there was a road to Volendam so the Trekschuit came to an end. First a made the canal with on both sides a small dike from putty. On the other side I made cane and 4 pollard willows. The Trekschuit is a simple model whit a deckhouse for about 8 people on it. On the bow and stern there was place for in total about 10 people: one to push the trekschuit, one to pull, one to hold the tiller, and 4 on the front side, one on the back side, and one on the top of the roof and one inside the deckhouse. The pollard willows where made of copper wire. The trunk is painted brown and the branches green. After they dried I put some glue on it and added green litter. The road is made of a small piece of leather. I also put some glue on the dike with a different color green litter. I made the people using copper wire, glue, and paint. The bottle opening is 30mm.
