Build the "P65" a Dutch Patrol Boat

 
This time I have made a SIB without sails. A colleague of mine asked me to make the ship that he is sailing on. The area he is working on is Amsterdam-IJmuiden. IJmuiden is the port to Amsterdam. The type of ship is a common patrol-boat that is used by the Dutch water police all over the country. It is the P (Police)65. I have a lot of pictures from the P65 as well as a drawing.

I started with making the hull in two parts. They are fitted together with little wooden pins. The hull is easy to make. It dos not have an upstanding side, the deck is all the way flat. On both sides are wale’s or bend’s to protect de ship sides. I have made them out of very small wooden sticks.

562 (5).jpgI made the deck house out of several parts. The inside is of linden wood. The windows are made of very thin triplex and are made out of 7 parts. The glass is of thin hard plastic.
 
562 (6).jpgThe top of the deckhouse is not fitted on to the deckhouse. That is because the size of both fitted parts (deck-house and top)is too big to pass through the bottle-neck. I made the inside of the deckhouse as accurate as possible. Seats for the crew and two chairs in the front, one for the steersman and one for the “captain”.
 
562 (25).jpgOn top of the deck-house you see two parts of a fence. They are laid down. When a policeman needs to check a vessel without cargo (when the ship lays high on the water) they need to climb on the deck-house by the stair (behind the deckhouse) and pull up both fences to hold themselves securely. The foremost fence can turned to the left and to the right on a rail and can be used as a gang-board to climbed on board of the vessel on a higher level.
 
 
After the deck house was finished I made the crane to carry out the deck-boot. The underside is wood, the crane itself is made out of square copper. I made the bollards out of thin copper nails. The deck boot is made of red copper wire for the tube and yellow copper is used for t he hull. I made two little deckhouse s, one in the centre of the ship and one on the starboard side with a pipe.

A difficult part was the antenna. A large mast with several antennas. Very thin copper is needed to solder different parts together. When you solder one part the other gets loose.

562 (24).jpgThe board lights on the antenna are made out of glue. It seems strange but if you put some glue on a copper wire, let it dry and after it is dry you put again some glue for the second time, and so on and so on you can made a light. You use the glue as clay and modelling it when it is drying. . When it is dry you can paint it.
 
After that I made the railings. They are fitted on the deck and can not be taken off. Little copper circles are used as life-buoys.
 
To build it up in the bottle I made very thin wooden pins. I drilled holes in to the bottom of the crane, little deck-houses and the main deck-house. I drilled holes on corresponding places on deck. I put the pins in to the loose parts so that they can be fitted together. To put on the deck-boat I drilled a hole in the bottom and solder a thin copper nail to it. It fits in a hole on the deck.
 
After I put the clay into the bottle (a square bottle of the firm Bokma, size 9 x 9 x 23 cm, bottleneck inside 20 mm) I fitted all the parts together. Because of not using any sails and wires it is very easy to make a “ship” of all the parts. Some white paint on top of the waves and the inside is ready.

A cork in the bottleneck and a Turkish-knot around it finishes the bottle.
 
A piece of old rope on a small oak-planking finishes the rest.
