Bottle 517 - Crucifixion Scene and Symbols
Date Added: 14 August 2007

This is a scene of the crucifixion. All items in the bottle are carved and in the natural wood color. There is a cross with made with a lap joint. The cross and cross arm are shaved to create a small groove on the edges. There is a small wooden figure of Jesus hanging on the cross. The figure is nicely carved but is quite small in proportion to the size of the cross. The cross is set on a wooden base that forms an "+". On the front of the base is a wooden pedestal or post with a carved rooster perched on the top. Between the rooster and the cross is a long spear and a sponge on a long pole. The spear and sponge are angled toward the outside of the bottle. On each side of the cross and on the base are carved bushes. There is a small and a tall bush on each side of the cross and they are carved to form the leaves and branches. On the back of the cross and on the base is a mallet and a pair of pliers. Behind that is a ladder with 9 rungs. The bottle is embossed on bottom with the number 500 and some unidentified design. The bottle is sealed with a cork.
