Bottle 204 - Cross and Symbols
Date Added: 01 October 2005

A very unusual piece of folk art depicting the cross and religious symbols. All pieces are built or carved using natural wood. There is a large lap joint base in the bottom of the bottle with the ends extended to the edges of the bottle to hold it securely. A cross is supported in the middle of the base and the cross arm touches the sides of the bottle to prevent it from moving. On the cross are 2 hearts pegged on the cross arm on one side. On the lower section of the cross is a wooden plaque like piece pegged to the cross. Attached to the base are a mallet, rooster, sailboat, 2 spears on poles, an axe, pick, hammer, club, and 2 nails. The cross extends up the neck of the bottle near the top and is held in place by a large cork. The main structure is a cross style extending up to the cork sealing the bottle. The bottle is full of water. On the bottom of the bottle is the wording "Patent Appl. For" and the number 5316 on the side of the bottle.
