Bottle - Jesus on the Cross in a Bottle |
---|
Date Added: 11 November 2018
This is a nicely detailed scene with the carved figure of Jesus shown hanging on the Cross with an INRI plaque above His head. His proportions and details are wonderful carved and very life-like. He is shown wearing a crown of thorns and a gold loin cloth. Blood is seen coming from his side, hands, feet, and from the tip of the long spear mounted on the base of the bottle.
On the base are two lanterns hanging from poles, a sponge on a long pole, delicately carved pliers, hammer, hatchet, mallet, chalice, dice nails and a large rooster on a tree stump.
The bottle is sealed with a wooden shaft that has a wooden crosspiece going through it making it impossible to remove the stopper. Under the stopper and inside the bottle is the name of the artist and the date. It is hard to read but looks like "A. Haslig" and the date 1891.
