Bottle 679 - Yarn Winder
Date Added: 29 November 2009

This is a yarn winder or niddy noddy with 3 winders built inside a two part molded bottle with bubbles in the glass. There is a winder in the base of the bottle, one in the center and one in the top. All the arms are in natural wood and are identically made with narrow tips to hold the yarn. There is a wooden shaft between each of the winders. The this yarn or thread is red in color and wraps around the arms a couple of times before going to the next arm. The wraps alternate to make a diamond shapes with the thread. There is a wooden shaft through the neck of the bottle that extends to the top of the winder to help hold the yarn winder into position. There is a tamper-proof cross piece going through the shaft preventing the it from being removed. Outside the bottle, the top of the shaft is capped with a carved round flat piece of wood with a carved ring extending from it. The very top of the ring has broke and likely was one of the links of other rings carved lilke a chain but it still makes an attractive top.
