Bottle 570 - Grandfather Clock
Date Added: 10 September 2012

This is a Carl Worner grandfather clock built in a coffin style bottle. It was made by the premier folk art bottle builder, Carl Worner and is one of 6 grandfather clocks identified as being made by him. Only one is know to have his signature in the bottle. This clock is made from wooden pieces of old cigar boxes which he commonly used for his bottles. Printing still shows on the reverse side of the wood. The clock fills the bottle and is built in multiple pieces so it could be put in the bottle. The wood making the clock is in natural color but there are outlines and highlights on all parts of the clock in blue and white. Multiple areas of the sides, bottom, top and rounded top are notched in rounded curves. There is a wooden pendulum that hangs below the face of the clock. The face of the clock is hand drawn and shows the time of 11: 32. There are three other Worner clocks that have been found with the hand drawn face that also have the same time of 11:32. It is not known if this time has some significance or if perhaps he made the face of the clocks at the same time and made them identical. Two more of Worner's identical clocks to this one have printed faces with different times on the face.
