Bottle 91 - Topsail Schooner |

Date Added: 13 May 2006
Although the age and maker is unknown, this topsail schooner appears to perhaps been made in the mid to later 1900's and is hand made. The ship has four masts and is sailing on a calm sea of blue. The ship's hull is carved to depict raised decks which are painted brown. The very bottom of the hull is painted green and the rest is white with black portholes. There are 13 sails flying on four masts. The ship is nicely rigged with both black and white threads depicting standing and running rigging. There are 4 shroud lines extending from each mast. The ship is approximately 6" long plus the length of the bowsprit. It fills the bottle nicely making a very impressive display. On one side of the hull and in the stern is some blue paint possibly coming from the sea when the ship was inserted in the bottle. The bottle has a cork with the end sealed with red sealing wax and an anchor stamped in the center. It rests on a wood plinth with curved sections of wood carved to fit the curve of the bottle on the front and back which cradle the bottle. The bottle is 10 1/2" x 4." Toward the top on the front and back is a raised pattern in the glass in the shape of a ribbon with 3 stars to each side and a crown in the center.
