Bottle 521 - Asian Harbor Scene
Date Added: 04 September 2007

This is a wonderful scene of a 3 mast sailing ship anchored outside a harbor in perhaps China or Japan. The ship is very well made and built with a good proportion of the size of the masts, spars and yards to the length of the ship. The rigging is exceptional with standing rigging lines in black thread and the running rigging in brown thread. The ship has railing on the bow and stern sections. There are three deck structures with a lifeboat on the top of the middle cabin. The bowsprit has a dolphin striker and there is a nicely carved masthead made from wood. Along side the ship is smaller boat, perhaps a tug with no mast but built with a single large cabin in the middle of the deck. Behind the ship and to the bow side is a well built two mast Chinese Junk with the classic sail with the wooden spars along the length of the sail. The Junk has a bowsprit and an single deck cabin. There is a large city on water's edge with 14 very different and distinctive buildings. Six on the buildings are on one side of a cobble stone road and are built on a raised stone wall embankment. The other buildings are on the opposite side of the street. The buildings are built as one, two, and three storied structures, with two pagodas or temples even larger. One of the pagodas has three roof and the other has five roofs defined in the classic pagoda tradition. The roofs are painted in a copper color. The buildings have many small pieces of wood that frame the windows, doors, and different stories of the buildings. Each building has its own distinctive roof with shingles, ridge caps, and more depicted. The city sits on a rock bed of light gray, blue, and white colors. There are 5 smaller boats anchored along side the rocky shore. The bottle is sealed with a metal screw cap and the end of the bottle is covered with a Turk's Head knot. The bottle has the wording "Half Gallon, Federal Law Forbids Sale or Re-Use of this Bottle."
