---|
Date Added: 30 July 2007
This is a wonderful model of an unidentified ship sailing on a relatively calm sea of green. This highly detailed model was made by master builder, George W. Fulfit. The ship has three masts with 21 sails. The ship has very detailed rigging with both standing and running rigging and a wonderfully carved blocks and tackle . Each mast is rigged with shrouds and ratlines. There is a red and white life saver hanging from the shrouds of the fore and mizzen masts on each side of the deck. The hull is black with a thin white stripe near the top. There is a hawsepipe in the bow section with a gold chain attached to a ship's anchor on deck. There is white railing on the forecastle area of the bow. The bowsprit is built in two sections and has a dolphin striker. The deck has a main cabin painted white with ports represented. The deck has many deck features including two large coils of rope, one in the bow area and one in the stern section. A very interesting and folksy feature of the ship are the nine individually carved and painted sailors placed around various areas of the ship. There are two sailors climbing up the ratlines, one on the foremast and one on the main mast. A ship's mate is in the bow section of the ship and two men mid-ship on the starboard side. One sailor is in the stern area and one coming up from the cabin. Two other sailors are getting the lifeboat on deck ready. There are four sea gulls carved in wood flying high above the ship. The seagulls are wonderfully carved and painted. The gull in the front has a fish in its beak. The bottle is sealed with a cork. Inside the bottle and inside the cork is a seagull on nest. Around the cork is a label with the following wording George W. Fulfit Toronto, Ontario, Canada written on it.
