Bottle 261 - 1934 Crucifixion Scene |
---|
Date Added: 01 October 2005
Wonderful scene of the crucifixion. The bottle is dated on a piece of paper nailed to the base that reads: "14-5-1934." The cross has a cut out of Jesus on the cross with Mary and 2 others at his feet. The cross is painted gold with silver highlights. There are carved "/" patterns on the cross and grooved at each end of the crosspieces and the top. A lantern hangs from one side of the cross and a red flail with a wood handle from the other. At the base of the cross are 4 tree-like poles (one has come dislodged). There is a gold ladder with 6 rungs. There is a spear, sponge on the end of a pole, and a roster on the end of another pole. There is a long pair of pliers, and a mallet. The base is natural wood. The bottle appears to have the neck cut off and is sealed with a cork with a piece of wire extending from the cork to the top of the cross holding it in place.
