Bottle 640 - Cross and Stopper
Date Added: 30 May 2009

This is a scene of the cross and tools built in an old liquor bottle. Inside there is a large wooden cross with turned ends on the cross arm and on the top and bottom of the upright. The wooden base is curved to conform to the contours of the bottom of the bottle. On one side of the base is a wooden hand saw and on the other a wooden axe or hatchet. On each side of the cross is a wooden ladder. In one side the rungs of the ladder are loose from the rail. The bottle is sealed with a long wooden shaft the extends through the opening of the bottle and has a wooden crosspiece going though it making it impossible to remove the top from the bottle. On top of the shaft is a carved wooden chain with three full links and two half links. On the end is a carved ball. The bottle has the following in raised letters "Contents Full 1/2 Pint." There is also the letter "B" on the bottom. Another bottle by this artist appears in the book "Genius in a Bottle" by Susan Jones, on page 54.
