Bottle - Hermaphrodite Brig in a Bottle
Date Added: 21 December 2016

This bottle contains a wonderful Hermaphrodite Brig sailing near land with houses and an active volcano. A Hermaphrodite Brig is a two-masted sailing ship which has square sails on the foremast combined with a schooner rig on the mainmast (triangular topsail over a gaff mainsail). The ship has two masts and 14 sails flying. An American flag flies from the stern rigging. The stern and bow sections are raised with white railing going around each. The ship has nice running and standing rigging. The land has ten houses scattered on a mountain. In the middle of the mountain there is a large active volcano rising high above the land. Smoke with fire and flames billows out of the volcano and there is a large lava flow going down the side of the volcano and mountain. This is a Duraglas bottle measuring 9 inches by 3 1/2 inches. From the raised markings on the Duraglas bottle it can be determine that it was made at the Clarksburg, WV plant in 1934 or 1944.
