Bottle - Mayflower in a Bottle |
---|
Date Added: 17 July 2016
This is a very well made and highly detailed model of the Mayflower, a carrack with three masts, square-rigged on the foremast and mainmast but lateen-rigged on the mizzenmast built in a round bottle. The Mayflower was used mostly as a cargo ship in the trade of goods (often wine) between England and France, but also Norway, Germany and Spain. The Mayflower was the ship that transported the English Dissenters, better known as the Pilgrims, from a site near the Mayflower Steps in Plymouth, England, to Plymouth, Massachusetts The bottle is possibly a chemistry or lab bottle. It is sealed with a cork.
