Bottle 922 - Valerian in a Bottle |
---|
Date Added: 29 August 2015
This is a model of the Valerian, a Ketch rigged trawler, built in a bottle by B Stratton. It has two masts and six flags flying with a "BM61" written on the main sail. This ship has nice rigging and great detail. In the neck of the bottle is a miniature model of a trawler with green sails. Valerian was the pride of Brixham's red-sailed trawlers in the 1920s and 1930s after winning the coveted King George V Cup in the port's regatta in the year she was built and scooping 10 more wins in the annual event in the following years. The trawler was scuttled off Berry Head in 1955. The stand is custom made and has the name of the artist B Stratton on it and carved in the wood "Ketch Rigged Trawler - Valerian."
