Bottle 887 - Admiralty Board |
---|
Date Added: 11 March 2011
This scene, called the Admiralty Board, was based on historic meetings of the Naval Board to discuss the merits of buiding proposed ships. The diorama is built in a Jim Beam bottle and contains an Admiralty model (frames exposed) resting on a stand on a large table in the center of the room. Around the table are 10 men carved from wood. Four are seated and the rest are standing in various poses around the table. One of the men is standing at a podium. Several of the men have a prospectus in their hands and several books are on the table and the floor. The writing on the prospectus states "This model was made by Greg Alvey, Owensboro, KY." Nearby is a globe of the world on a stand. There is a fireplace with built in bookcases at the end of the bottle. A raging fire, made from stained glass shards, burns in the fireplace. There is a model ship on the mantle. Several books are arranged on the shelves of each boookcase. Candleholders with red candles are on top of the bookcases. The wall behind the fireplace is wallpapered. A large picture of the Artist, Greg Alvey, and his wife, Patty hangs above the mantle. Above the bookcases are two oval pictures; one is their granddaughter, Nicole; and the other is their grandson, Aaron.
