Bottle 848 - 1917 Ship Diorama
Date Added: 12 September 2010

The essence of folk art is the individuality of each artist, and the motif employed by the maker of this ship in bottle was no exception. On a church steeple in the diorama (unfortunately hidden in photos) the artist painted "1917," the date of origin. Extremely clean design and execution by artist, a superb master of his craft. The bottle is made from seamless injected blown glass mold with collar on neck added afterward. Numerous almond-shaped bubbles in glass. Beautiful hand-painted and hand-carved three-tier diorama enhances the ship inside the bottle. In mint condition. This bottle was made by the same artist who made the 1919 bottle listed under Bottle ID 859. On the 1917 bottle the date of the model is written on a church steeple. On the 1919 bottle the date of origin appears on two towers. The flag on this 1919 bottle is United Kingdom where the flag on this 1917 bottle by the same artist is German.
