Ships, Folk Art, and Whimsey in Bottles

This is a beautiful double yarn winder in a solid wooden base. The rectangular base has a gold painted ball on each corner. Two upright carved slats come up from the middle of the base and supports a dowel between them. On he dowel are two four-armed yarn winders with threads wrapped several times around the arms. The bottle is sealed with a wooden dowel painted gold and there are two cross arms going through the stopper in opposite directions making it impossible to remove the stopper. A gold painted ball is suspended from the end of each cross-arm. Outside the bottle is a carved gold painted top with a fancy flower-like carving. Under the base inside the bottle are the initials of the maker "F.W." and the date "1900."
