Bottle 555 - Niddy Noddy |
---|
Date Added: 19 February 2008
This is a vintage carved yarn string winder, or niddy-noddy, in a bottle. This hand carved piece is dated 1916 and signed with the initials that I believe to be GDP. It also has the number 18 or 81. The yarn winder is made with crosspieces on each end connected by a long wooden shaft. The shaft is square cut and goes through the crosspieces like a mortise and tendon. The winder has alternate rows of red yarn diagonally laced around the winders with rows of white yarn laced around the winder in the same fashion. The bottle is sealed with a wooden shaft with a cross piece going through the part inside the bottle making it impossible to remove the stopper.
