Bottle 486 - House and Birds
Date Added: 26 November 2006

This is a folk art whimsey made by Amos L. Beiler. The bottle is of a country scene with all elements made from thin pieces of various colored and painted wood. The scene is of a house sitting in the country with trees, foliage and wildlife. The scene sits on a 1/4" x 1/2" length of wood used as a base that is glued to the bottom of the bottle. On the base is a farm house with three windows and a chimney. The roofs of the house is from darker wood. On each side of the house are tall green evergreen trees or tall shrubs with lines defining the branches. There is a slat attached to the base on each side that is covered in flower blossoms that resemble those of the dogwood tree and two green leaves. On one side of the house is a small spotted fawn made from plastic. There are 2 birds flying above the house. One of the birds is very large and has long shaved tail feathers. The other bird is made from the thin wood and is tinted red. There are two long dowels extending from the base to the neck of the bottle that are covered in flower or dogwood blossoms and leaves. In front of the house and on the bottom of the bottle is a long green leave with a single flower blossom in the center. The bottle is sealed with a cork. Amos L. Beiler, a Mennonite folk artist of Narvon, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, was born in 1888 and died in 1984.
