Bottle 443 - Crucifixion Scene
Date Added: 11 September 2006

This is a very wonderful, involved, and interesting scene of Jesus hanging on the cross with religious figures and symbols. Jesus is a cutout from a religious Holy Card and is mounted on a wooden cross painted green. Under the base is a piece of red cloth covering the bottom of the bottle. The cross is set in a cross piece base also painted green. On the front of the base is a Holy Card cutout of Joseph holding the baby Jesus mounted on a piece of wood coming from the base. On both sides of the cross are long pieces of green painted wood extending to just below the cross arm of the cross. On the lower portion on each side are Holy Card cutouts of angels with wings. Each are of different angels and scenes. Above each of these angels are two more smaller angels, also with wings and different from each other. On the back side of the cross is a green painted ladder with seven rungs. Behind the ladder and next to the cross are two wooden dice. There are also two long poles crisscrossing each other with a circle in the center where the cross. On the end of each pole is a red puffy tassel. Hanging from each side of the cross arm is a long red thread with religious symbols attached. On one side is a sponge tied to the center and a pair of pliers with three wooden nails on the end. On the other side is a coiled rope and crown of thorns tied to the center of the rope and a flail and mallet tied to the end. The bottle is sealed with a wooden dowel with a Holy Card cutout of a dove mounted on the end just above the cross. The dowel is secured in the bottle with an actual nail making the stopper "impossible" to remove. The bottle is a late 1800's two mold type with numerous air bubble.
