Date Added: 01 October 2005
This is a very colorful and unusual scene of Jesus hanging on the cross. Throughout the bottle are carved geometrically shaped pieces painted in multiple colors of red, black, green, white, gold, orange and yellow. The cross is painted black with a red carved top and below that a brown INRI plaque. Jesus is carved with his body in natural wood and he has a gold painted carved loin cloth. Jesus is painted with black hair and beard. His hands and feet are nailed to the cross and a small red dot is painted where he was stabbed with a spear. The cross sits on a cross base that is carved in many geometric shapes and painted in multiple colors. Mounted to the base are numerous colorful geometrically shaped wood depicting candles, sponge, spear, candelabra, and more. There is a carved saw, axe, pliers and a hammer being held by a hand carved in wood. In the back of the bottle is a long ladder with 19 rungs. Coming from the base near the ladder is a long curved carved piece of wood that connects to a support over the top of the cross. This support rests on 2 long carved pieces coming from the base. The carved and painted support is held in place by another carved piece that is attached to the wood shaft sealing the bottle. Atop the wooden shaft is a large carved crown-like top. Inside the bottom of the bottle is a piece of paper with the following inscription: "Remember P.O.W. Itali Name Vignali Augusto Italia Selbi 19-10-43."
