Bottle 286 - 1800 Sled
Date Added: 01 October 2005

This is a late 1800 sled in a bottle. The sled is in natural wood and is put together in the bottle in several sections. There are 2 curved sled runners with a crosspiece in front that has t long pole attached that presumably was where a team of ox, mules, or horses would have been harnessed. Across the middle of the sled is a curved wooden piece that connects the two runners. There are additional pieces connected to the piece holding it in position. Across the very middle is an angled slat of wood that wedges the sled in the bottle so that it will not move around. The slat has the name of the maker written in pencil: "George W. Kinsie(?). The bottle is a coffin style bottle and is sealed with a wooden dowel that has a tamper-proof crosspiece. The top is a round piece of natural wood with a tight crisscross pattern carved across the entire top.
