Bottle 284 - 1946 Crucifixion
Date Added: 01 October 2005

This is a nice scene of Jesus hanging on the cross. All components of this scene are made in natural wood except the holy card cutout of Jesus. Each end of the cross and the top are carved. The cross mounts on to a crosspiece base. The base has wedges on the ends of the base that secure it to the sides of the bottle. On the front of the base and to the left of the cross is written: "10.9" and on the left side is "1946." On the other base are 4 poles carved to look like trees. There is also mounted a long pole with sponge and a lance. On the other base is a hammer and pliers. The back base piece has a ladder with 5 rungs. On top of the cross is a thin piece of wood carved in the shape of a rooster. On top of that is a small piece of cork cut flush with the top of the bottle. The cork is sealed with sealing wax that has the initials "IK" presumably the initials of the artist imprinted in the wax. This model is made by the same person who made another bottle in 1950 and it is featured in a book by Susan Jones "Genius in a Bottle" and found on page 116.
