Bottle 214 - USS George Washington |
---|
Date Added: 01 October 2005
This is a homemade replica of the Aircraft Carrier USS George Washington (CVN73) inserted inside an industrial light bulb and mounted on a wooden stand. The replica features missile launchers, gun mounts, a lowered aircraft elevator, and a F14 Tomcat landing and catching an arresting cable. The modelers name is Robert Bennett and this model was created by him when he picked up the hobby of building ships and putting them in bottles. What really inspired him with this one is the fact that he used to be in the U.S. Navy and the USS George Washington was his last command. He sailed onboard her for a week back in the summer of 1995 when he was attached to an F14 Squadron (VF-103). Then in 2000 he was permanently assigned to her and did a 6 month Mediterranean / Arabian Gulf Cruise. He tried to capture as much detail as possible with that scale.
