Bottle 1407 - Ma, Pa, and Critters in a Bottle
Date Added: 18 April 2019

Built by Greg N. Alvey of Owensboro, Kentucky in 2019, this folksy scene shows Pa in his red union suit warming his hands and showing his partly exposed backside with his seat flap down in front of an old potbelly stove. The stove is on a stone hearth and has a stovepipe going into a stone chimney. The old coal bucket and shovel is nearby full of coal. An old porcelain styled coffee pot is warming on the stove. In front of him is his trusty hound dog laying on an old rug with a bowl of food nearby. To his side is their cat stretching and playing with a ball of yarn. A broom rests against the stone fireplace wall. A rat has snuck out behind the bucket and is approaching a piece of cheese. Ma, in her colorful bathrobe and with her hair rolled up in pink curlers, has walked up holding a newspaper paper along with a cup of coffee. The headline from the newspaper reads: "Ma and Pa in a Bottle by Greg N. Alvey, Owensboro, Kentucky 2019." It goes on the say "Scene of Ma and Pa with their pets on a cold morning. The 6 by 6 ½" high bottle is an old kerosene bottle." The floor is made with individual wooden planks. Under the floor inside the bottle are the words: "Greg Alvey, Owensboro, Kentucky, 2019." The bottle is sealed with a wooden stopper with an old style ceiling light hanging below it. Outside the bottle is a larger wooden cap with a switch on the top. When the switch is pushed the light comes on. The wiring and 12v battery are hidden from sight inside a cavity in the stopper.
