Bottle - Schooner in a Bottle
Date Added: 15 September 2016

"This little model is typical of many schooners that are inserted into a bottle, but there is an interesting story behind the journey to its’ current state. About four years ago my daughter moved to Chester, CT after taking a job in the area. She rented a room from Isaac and Virginia who own a historic home built in 1825 by a Doctor Turner who graduated from Yale School of Medicine around that same time. During Renovations a trap door was discovered in a back room where Doctor Turner had buried “garbage” under the trap that led to the basement and foundation. Isaac and Virginia found this Hood’s Sarsaparilla bottle near the top of the heap. Knowing a little about the manufacturer in Lowell, Massachusetts and looking at the construction of the bottle it was probably placed there around 1876 near the end of Doctor Turner’s career. I constructed the little vessel here and presented Isaac and Virginia with the gift for being such great landlords to my daughter. " - Bill Sheridan
