Bottle 1003 - God Is Love in a Bottle |
---|
Date Added: 10 March 2015
This is an exceptional religious wood scene in bottle built by the renowned folk artist and carver, Daniel Rose. The scene features a large ornately carved wooden fan mounted on a base. There is a white thread tied around the shaft of the fan. Below the fan and on the front of the middle section is a carved plaque that reads: "God Is Love." On the back a carved pair of wooden scissors are mounted to the fan shaft. On the base are two rabbits carved in different positions and two squirrels perched on a square wooden block with an "X" drawn on faces of the block. The squirrels are on opposite sides and are facing away from each other. "Seek the Lord" is hand written on the front of the base. The back view has a hammer and an hatchet mounted on the base. "Fear God" is handwritten on the base. Under the base there is the following hand written on the wood: "July 16, 1919. Daniel Rose Johnstown Pa." The bottle is sealed with a wooden stopper with a crosspiece going through it inside the bottle making it impossible to remove the stopper. The top of the stopper is a darker wood and is carved somewhat in the shape of a crown.
