Colosseum in a Bottle
Date Added: 24 October 2020
Through these photos I have documented the model of the Colosseum that I made in 1987. In one photo I show my plans for the project with an image of the monument. Another photo shows the work assembled externally. A third photo lets you see the internal details. Finally, the finished work is displayed in the container which rests on a base finished with precious woods. The model is made in an old 10 liter container for pharmacy use and is made of maple wood, I would like to emphasize that for the design and construction I used tourist images as in 1987. The Colosseum, known as the "Flavian Amphitheater" is located in the center of the city and is the largest amphitheater in the world and is also known as the symbol of the city of Rome. The amphitheater was built in the Flavian era; begun by Vespasian in 71/72 after Christ and inaugurated by Titus in 80 and finished by Domitian in 90 The building has an elliptical shape with an external perimeter of 527 meters with axes measuring 187.5 and 156.5 meters respectively, 'maximum current height is 48 meters, but originally it reached 52. In ancient times it was used for gladiator shows and other public events (hunting shows, re-enactments of famous battles, mythological dramas, etc.), the tradition that it is a place of martyrs for Christians is unfounded. After the sixth century the structure was variously used also as a burial area, and finally also as a quarry for building material in fact many blocks of "travertine" were used for the construction of Palazzo Barberini and other noble palaces in Rome.
