Flemish Galleon of 1593 in a Bottle
Date Added: 04 September 2020
The original model is in the Museo Naval in Madrid and is called "Flemish Galleone of 1593", because royalty of the Flemish people gave it to the Spanish Emperor and King Philip II. It is a votive ship, ergo it was originally designed to be hung in a church or representative hall. The hull of the ship in a bottle was made of very hard, light pear wood and is divided into five parts. It is held together by bamboo pins. Bamboo knitting needles were brought into a conical shape as masts on the lathe. The yards and the one gaff on the mizzen mast are also made of this wood. The rigging in different dew thicknesses and colors is made of overlock yarn, sewing thread and for the massive stage of kite line dyed with Skriptol, the blocks are made of rocaille beads with 1.3 mm diameter. The sails in turn are made of white synthetic fiber, the magnificent painting was applied by hand with acrylic colors. For rigging in the fermenting balloon, each mast had to be brought in individually, the rigging boards are inserted into the ship's walls with two pinched-off cannula tips each.
