The HANSA (Ex United States) was a paddle steamer frigate of the Reichsflotte of the German Confederation and from 1850 its flagship. The United States made her maiden voyage from New York to Liverpool in 1848. Afterwards, it was used on the New York - Le Havre scheduled service. In 1849, the ship was purchased for the Reich's fleet and converted into a warship in New York. The further conversion took place in Liverpool, where the ship was also renamed. The three federal members and Hanseatic cities of Hamburg, Bremen and Lübeck gave the name to the project. The model by Matthias Schultz is housed in a 0.7-litre fruit brandy bottle on a scale of 1:650. The hull is made of wood in three parts, the deck, bulwark and paddle wheels are made from the bottom of a yoghurt cup. The latter were added to the ship later in the bottle like the bridge.
