Zheng He's Treasure Ship in a Bottle
Date Added: 19 September 2017
A treasure ship was a type of large wooden ship in the fleet of Admiral Zheng He, who led seven voyages during the early 15th-century Ming Dynasty. The purported dimensions of the largest of these ships rise up to measures from about 137 m (450 ft) long and 55 m (180 ft) wide. More than this the possible amount of nine (!) masts of these ships have been the reason for Matthias Schultz, to choose this type of ship to create a model for a bottle. For getting the hulk through the bottleneck he divided it into six parts. All the masts got single onto the ship after this has been stuck together again. The appearance of the hulk is unusual colorful referring to a model for an archetype he found in the internet and seeming to reflect the chinse taste of today. As background Schultz has chosen a scenery of hills covered with trees and the spectacular "James-Bond-Island" in the bay of Phuket/Thailand, so it is of course not sure if Zheng He’s fleet has ever been there. It is made as the water of a mixture of sealant and gypsum covered with moss from Island for imitating the vegetation and bark for the rock. As a stand he made a dragon modeled from paste for repairing cars. It is lying on the back holding the bottle tight and biting into the bottleneck that is closed with the chines character for luck and happiness.
