Woodwright Shop - Building Ships in Bottles
Woodwright Shop - Building Ships in Bottles
Ship in Bottle builder, Jim Goodwin will be appearing on PBS's Roy Underhill's Woodwright's Shop School this winter giving instructions on this craft. He had previously appeared on this show in 2004. He will be using a large MD 20/20 bottle for the ship since that was the bottle used on his program. He got a lot of looks when he purchased a case of that hair remover.

A pirate ship no less! About 85% of this maritime craft is done outside of the bottle. Starting with making your own tools, Jim Goodwin will guide you through a sequence of varied craft techniques, from woodcarving to sewing, to create your own maritime marvel. After positioning your folded ship in the colored clay sea, you'll raise the masts and join the fewer than 1,000 ship-in-a-bottle makers on planet earth. For my part, I'm hard at work emptying the MD 20-20 bottles.
