Bottle 574 - Suspended Cross

Date Added: October 11, 2007
This "antique" bottle is actually a new model made by folk art and whimsey builder, Chris Wood. The cross is made from cedar and was purchased in the Southwest and taken apart and reassembled in this bottle. There is writing on the cross that says "By Rudy," or perhaps "By Randy" or "By Rocky." There are lighter carved wooden diamond and pendant shapes forming the image of a cross and look to represent Jesus hanging on the cross. Uniquely, the diamond and pendant shapes span across the cross arm of the cross adding to the difficulty. The cross is suspended approximately 1/8" from the bottom of the bottle from two metal eye hooks that attach the cross to the stopper. The stopper is wooden and has a rounded dome cap attached. The bottle has some remnants of its original Victorian paper label.
