Exceptional scene of the crucifixion carved in wood. The cross is detailed with carved relief and has the letters INRI on top. Jesus is carved and is very detailed. There is a ladder, spears, long rod with perhaps a sponge or cloth on top. Beside the cross is a pedestal with a carved roster on top. At the base of the cross is a hammer and pliers. There are three dice in front. Behind the cross are 4 cone carvings representing trees. Very detailed and well done. There is grass or shrub like foliage on the bottom. The bottle is very old, perhaps made in the late 1800's or at the turn of the century, and was made by a sailor on there island of Helgoland. Items of this type were made and traded for food and money. This item came from the great-grandfather of the seller whose grandmother 1903.
