Bottle 1313 - BREMEN (1858) in Bottle

The BREMEN was built by Caird & Co, Greenock in 1858, for the Norddeutscher Lloyd of Bremen. She was a clipper with one funnel and three masts rigged for sail, had an iron construction and a single screw. The BREMEN was used on the Bremen - New York service. On October 16th, 1882, the BREMEN, was on a voyage from Liverpool to San Francisco with a cargo of Whiskey and coal, when she was lost, south from Farallon Islands, due to a navigation error. Matthias Schultz has chosen this ship because he is born in Bremen and also there has been a request for it. To show die screw made of a thumbtack the ship is placed on a stand in the bottle. The wooden hulk is divided into two parts to pass the bottle’s neck. Details like the funnel or the pontoon bridge were added later. The yarn for rising up the rig is leaded through bow sprit. Where it has to dive into the deck it approaches trough the hawsepipe on port again.
