Bottle 1176 - Mould Model in a Bottle

During a visit to one of the National Maritime Museums in Holland, Frans Dekker saw a model that caught his eye and he decided to build it in a bottle. He calls this his "Mould Model." A mould model was used by the master ship builders before they were able to draw the ship before it was build. So they made a mould model and when it was in good shape they used the mould model to make a great ship. They took the sizes of the mould model and translated in to the right size. This model is a half ship display model mounted on a wooden platform made of maple wood. The model shows the fore and aft stem, the keel, and location of the 3 masts and the bowsprit. The visible contours of the ribs are partially covered with planking and bulwark. The bottle is sealed with a cork and there is a Turk’s Head knot around the neck. The bottle rests on a custom stand.
