Bottle 1122 - Speed Bike

Date Added: February 14, 2014
From Artist Keith Brown: "The design was taken from a 1930's Popular Mechanics cover picture. I liked the picture and tried to copy the feeling of speed by using different colored threads for the image 'blur'. I etched the outside of the bottle to show the smoke swirl that I drew with a felt pen on the bottle. The bike is carved from wood, several small slabs of wood that were measured to be able to fit through the neck were stacked and glued, I then carved the image and painted it then each slab was cut apart and then re-glued inside of the bottle. Several different colors of thread were glued to the bike then ran to the outside of the bottle neck. The outside of the bottle was then masked off in several stages and etched using a small scale medium blaster (aluminum carbide). The process I wrote about a while back for your workshop section. The bottle is a vodka bottle 12"long, 3 1/2" wide with a 3/4 inch inside dia. neck."
